Open burning is regulated by the Allegheny County Health Department to protect air quality and public safety. Residents must follow specific guidelines regarding materials, fire size, location, and air quality conditions.
Key requirements include:
- Fires must be at least 15 feet from structures, property lines, and public areas
- Only clean wood, propane, or natural gas may be burned (with limited exceptions)
- Burning is not permitted on Air Quality Action Days
- Fires may not exceed 3’ x 3’ x 2’ in size
